Since the holiday season is all about family, I thought you might like a glimpse of the Southern Cast Iron family who puts together this beautiful magazine.
To my left is Betty Terry, our Managing Editor. In between researching and writing about foundries, Betty does her best to keep us on deadline. To my right is our Food Editor, Anna Theoktisto. When she’s not cooking for her one-year-old son, Harrison, this Culinary Institute of America grad helps me dream up delicious stories and recipes for the magazine. (Her cover turkey is a masterpiece!)
Next to her is Sidney Bragiel, stylist extraordinaire. Sid (along with Mary Beth Jones and Beth Seeley) set a beautiful stage for our cast-iron recipes, picking the perfect accessories to make the finished photo look good enough to eat. Behind her, there’s our Assistant Editor Mary-Kate Tucto. From interviewing chefs to sneaking snapshots for Instagram, this busy bee is passionate about cast iron and telling its story. The redhead next to her is test kitchen professional Vanessa Rocchio. With a background in styling, she uses her culinary and visual talents to put together some delicious and stunning stories for us. (Hint: Our Mixed Nuts peice is her handiwork.)
Next to her is Hannah Jones, our awesome multitasking Editorial Assistant. In addition to handling all of our social media, Hannah likes to help out with styling. (You can see her creativity at work in Cast-Iron Curiosities and Skillet Splurge.) And last but not least, that curly-haired mischief-maker in the back left corner is Melissa Gray, test kitchen professional and professional cast-iron fan. She truly loves cast iron and gives all of our vintage skillets a nice spa treatment (i.e., reseasoning) after every single shoot.
That’s just the very tip of the iceberg—there’s Jim, Will, Stephanie, Marcy, and Caroline, who work magic with lights and lenses to capture the most amazing images, and of course, Brian Hart Hoffman and Brooke Bell, who entrusted us with the creation of this beautiful magazine in the first place, and who encourage us to make it better every single day.
From our family to yours, have a glorious holiday season!
Josh Miller, Editor
