This is slightly sweeter than a typical Manhattan, but it still packs a punch.
Sweet Tea Manhattans
Makes about 5 cups
Ingredients
- 1 orange
- 1 cup water
- ⅓ cup light brown sugar
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 2 black tea bags
- 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
- 2½ cups rye whiskey
- 1 cup sweet vermouth
- 14 dashes Angostura bitter
- Maraschino cherries
Instructions
- Using a vegetable peeler, remove rind from orange, and place in a small saucepan. Add 1 cup water and next 3 ingredients. Bring to a boil over medium heat; reduce heat, and simmer for 10 minutes.
- Strain mixture into a pitcher, discarding solids. Stir in lemon juice, and refrigerate until cold. Stir in whiskey, vermouth, and bitters. Serve over ice, and top with cherries.
